Enhanced Student Learning & Cultural Growth

  • Student exchanges foster academic growth, cultural awareness, and language skills.
  • Exchange students bring diverse perspectives, enriching the classroom experience for all students.
  • Schools offering exchange programs stand out as leaders in global education.

Structured Support & Risk Management

  • CASEO organisations provide 24/7 student support, ensuring schools don’t bear full responsibility for student welfare
  •  If issues arise, there are clear procedures for student well-being support.

Strengthened School Reputation & Global Networks

  • Schools known for successful exchange programs attract more students and build stronger international partnerships.

FAQ's

Common questions about accepting student exchange students into your school

Do we need to be CRICOS-registered to accept exchange students?

No. Exchange students come on a Subclass 500 Student visa (Secondary Exchange stream), which is specifically for reciprocal, not-for-profit exchange programs. Because they remain enrolled with their overseas school, the Australian host school does not need CRICOS registration.

No. Host family placement and monitoring are the responsibility of the registered student exchange organisation, which holds overall welfare responsibility for the student.

No. The exchange provider is responsible for all aspects of student welfare, including host family arrangements. Schools only provide the same duty of care as they would to any Australian student during school hours.

Yes, but exchange students are under a different stream of the Subclass 500 visa. Fee-paying students require a CRICOS-registered school and a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), while exchange students enter with an AASES form (Acceptance Advice for Secondary Exchange Student). This is why CRICOS registration is not required for hosting schools.

Exchange students are counted as part of the school’s enrolment. Schools receive their usual state/territory government funding, just as if the student were a local enrolment. No international tuition fees are charged, as the placement is reciprocal and AASES-based.
